Goswami, was a brilliant teacher, researcher and a strong advocate of quality education. She secured the first position in first class in Geology (Honours) in the B.Sc.(Final) Examination,1973 of the Gauhati University from the Cotton College, Guwahati. She was awarded Gold Medal by the Guwahati University for securing first position in the first class in the M.Sc. (Final) Examination, 1974 of the Gauhati University. After her Master’s, she got admitted into the Petroleum Technology Department of Dibrugarh University from where she obtained a first class Post Graduate Diploma in Petroleum Technology in the year 1977. Thereafter she was awarded UGC fellowship with which she pursued her doctoral research in the field of organic geochemistry at the Department of Applied Geology, Dibrugarh University under the guidance of Late Dr. M. M. Saikia who was a renown geoscientist working as the Head of the Geoscience Division of the then Regional Research Laboratory, a CSIR laboratory located in Jorhat, Assam.
