Cambridge School
Cambridge School was initiated by ‘ Alok Chandra Deb’ born in 1898 at Dehra Dun [Source: Personnel File , Cambridge School, Dehra Dun]. He studied at the Calcutta University where he pursued and obtained a Master of Arts in Literature Before venturing into his teaching profession, he was a teacher at Col Brown’s School and the Gurkha Military Academy. Regarding his nationalism, it is to be mentioned that extensive reading in England, Urdu and Bengali literature and his friendship with the well-known lawyer and composer Atul Prasad Sen whom he met in Lucknow played a contributing factor as well. The schooling that Mr. Deb got as a pupil made him dissatisfied with the syllabi and the manner in which the Indo-English students were treated in the Schools controlled by the Englishmen. These frustrations led him into starting Cambridge School so that, he could freely institute a more acceptable and honoring educational atmosphere for Indian students. With his school, Mr. Deb wanted to bring a rigorous academic program that at the same time does not disrespect the culture of Indian students.
